Introducing the June 2008 Boxer of the Month *BRUISER*
(click image for full size) Name: Big Daddy Bruiser
Date of Birth : July 10, 2006
How did you find your Boxer? word of mouth
Training to Date: Basic Obedience (By us, not formal classes)
Favorite Foods/Snacks: Cottage Cheese, Yogurt, Peanut Butter, & Cheese Puffs (when he sneaks 'em from the kids )
Best Trick: Giving Hugs
Favorite Activities: Loves to play with kids, go for a joy ride, going for walks
Favorite Toy: BoBo ( his stuffed wienie dog that sqeaks) & Rubber Tire Toy
Least Liked Things: Having to go potty in the rain, Being left alone, & Cats
Nick Names: Bruizzie, Big Daddy
Name a few Things that your Boxer does to Melt Your heart : Looking up at me with his BIG Brown eyes..Whinning when I leave him, Climbing up in the bed with me every night..cuddling up next to me wanting nothing more than Momma to cuddle him back
Another Thing he Does that is just too funny is give this hard Blow when he gets in trouble & just flopp down mad. just like a pouting kid
HomeComing: The day we found Bruiser was a HOT August afternoon. We pulled up in the driveway at the lady's (BYB) house & seen a little make shift pen in the center area of the yard with several of the cutest little cone head puppies in it. The lady came out of the house with Bruisers parents. Dozer a large white male Boxer & Roxy a goregous fawn beauty. Back then I admit I didn't know all I know now about BYB's & all. I had done a bit of research but clearly didn't know all I should've looking back. Not that any of that would've mattered when chosing my sweet boy. I'd do it all over again a thousand times. We talked with lady as she let the pups free from the pen. They were all hot, (had NO shade) thirsty as could be as they had no water in their little pen either. The pen was nasty & you could tell it hadn't been cleaned in several days. The little pups wondered around the yard going each their own ways except one little man .....My Bruiser. He walked straight up to my daughter Kaylen (then 3) & whimpered as if to say "pick me up" she picked him up & rubbed him gently as he licked her face. We asked the lady our questions which she answered mostly in lies. She was only worried about one thing & one thing only....her money. We looked each pup over & played with them all but as they all wondered off going near their mother etc, this one special little man stayed near to us. He kept whimpering in the sadest most pitiful tone. He was begging to get out of there I think. Our decision was made. He had chosen us just as much as we had chosen him. Honestly I wished so terribly I could've taken all the little pups home that day & found good loving forever homes for them like they so deserved. But I couldn't. I left that day happy to have gotten my sweet boy but so terribly sad for the others left behind in those terrible conditons. We brought our sweet boy home gave him a bath, showered him with lots of love & gifts & made him a part of our family.

Introducing the May Featured Boxer... *MACK*
Name: Mack
Nickname: Mackey (as a puppy), Mackaroni, Mackaroonie, Baby boy, Big Guy, my boyfriend, my best guy
Date of Birth: December 2, 1998
Age: 9 years old
Favorite Toy: Mack loves chewies - edible chewies. Bullstix, rawhide bones, raw femurs. Favorite Treat:
FOOD, FOOD, GLORIOUS FOOD - Mack loves anything edible and somethings gross by any standards Best Trick:
No tricks - he is just Mack and is loved for himself.
Likes: Going for walks, visiting with his grandkids and fans, riding anywhere for any length of time. Eating, eating, eating
Dislikes: Going to the vet - he's had way too much of that and a lot of it was painful. He is always brought around by a cookie though.
Mack's Homecoming: Our Katie (the love of my life had died enexpectedly on Super Bowl Sunday. We were heartbroken....every part of our home, yard, car and daily activities were filled with Katie. We were going to wait, we were going to take a Hawaiian vacation.........that lasted 4 days of sadness, grief and longing. I then knew why people get married too soon, get pregnant too soon after a death - wanting so painfully to fill that void. It was January, not a lot of puppy ads (we knew nothing of rescue) and we scrounged every newspaper for 4 counties. Finally found one south of us with no phone number - just an address. As we drove to the home, I made the Big Guy promise to not put the choice on me, to let us talk about it and decide if it was right. We arrived at the home - there were two litters in a home where English was barely spoken. Two females had given birth within two weeks of each other. There was one big, roly poly pup from the older litter left. The kids in the family were calling him "the Big Lebowski". He was 9 weeks old and the kids had spent a lot of time man-handling and playing with him. He spied the corner and took off for it - "let's see what's over there". One of the little boys ran after him, carrying him back by his 'arms'. I immediately worried he was being hurt. The second litter was 6 weeks old......she brought them out and all the puppies scampered into my lap. I immediately starting sobbing (the lady thought I was crazy). I couldn't talk but we told her we wanted to think about it and would get back to her. We drove off, me boo-hooing and we stopped for a hamburger and talked about it. We'd had problems with urinary incontienence with both our previous females. The Big Guy said he wanted to try something different, a male - he wanted the Big pup - the Big Lebowski. We drove back to the home about an hour later, chose Lebowsky/Mack and with me sobbing, gasping telling her this puppy would have a wonderful life, would never need anything and I would do anything to give him a good life........she said that's what she wanted - but was thrilled with our check. We drove home, with Mack on my lap, me sobbing the whole way. We had a hard time with Mack's puppyhood - both of us thinking we'd never live through it, we were too old. As fate would have it, he matured much more quickly than Katie - was pretty settled by 1 year (where she was still a wild child at 5). It took me a long time to bond with Mack.....he just couldn't be my Katie - she was a senior girl - he was a male puppy. I always loved him and took good care of him but I think it was his cruciate ligament injury and surgery that bonded me closely to him. He needed his Mom and I was there for him.
More About Our Mack: When he rolls on his back, all feet in the air and looks so content. Sitting on my lap or his Dad's. The not-too-often times when he'll play with Lulu. Just being my quiet, sweet, senior guy who appreciates the good times.
Congratulations Mack!

Introducing the May 2007 Featured Boxer . . . *Rubi* Name: Rubi Nickname: Rubidawg, Rubinator, Rubester, Rubi-Doobi, Woobie-Woo, Stink-butt, PITA, Baby Girl Date of Birth: February 16, 2005 Age: 2 years old Favorite Toy: her stuffed Snoopy, stuffed Lamby, and tennis ball Favorite Treat: Ice Cream! She was playing with her doggie-pals, when her back legs flew out from behind her and she fell down the steps and couldn't get back up. It was the most heartbreaking thing to Ever see. She comes from a BYB, but has come a long way since we found out. She's gone through physical therapy to help avoid extensive surgeries. We were told by our Specialists that she could lose her ability to walk at a very young age. So far, she's proven to all her Vets that she's bound and determined to live a wonderful life, filled with lots of running, jumping, walking and swimming....just being a Happy Dog. She's strong and has taught me so much about inner strength that I learn from her everyday, and am so blessed to have her strength to help guide me in my life. She has graduated Basic and Intermediate Obedience, with honors. She will go through Advanced training by the end of the year, and from there....the possibilities are endless as Rubi has the drive to work and please Everyone. (aka She likes to "Show-Off" lol) Our trainer has suggested Obedience Competitions. Rubi's Homecoming: Shawn and I moved to North Carolina 5 years ago. Back at home, Shawn has another Boxer - named Koho. We married 2 years later, and decided for our 1 year anniversary that we wanted a boxer of our own. (After much begging from me, of course, lol). We called breeders from the paper, and found exactly what I wanted. She's been my heart and my strength ever since...
